GSM Enabled Mosquito Ultra-Sonic Youth Crowd Dispersal System

 

Primarily designed for the police, the GSM Mosquito as its name implies can be activated  / deactivated via mobile telephone text message.

This system requires a SIM card in order to function over the GSM network. SIM cards can be purchased by the customer from a range of suppliers, however we recommend Vodafone Data SIM’s which can be supplied pre-installed in the GSM Mosquito.

Product Information.
The GSM Mosquito system was initially designed for use by police forces who needed to use the Mosquito in areas or at times when there is no one on site to activate the device. The system is now being taken up by private sector clients also.

There are three primary methods for assessing when it is appropriate to activate the system.

1. Residents / business people in the area are provided a contact number for a qualified / nominated person / police officer. When the local residents / business people feel there is a problem, they call the nominated person, explain the situation and if the nominated person feels it is appropriate, he / she can send an activation text message to the relevant Mosquito specifying the length of time the unit should stay on.

2. Local police patrols / security staff roaming the area can upon seeing a problem situation, activate the unit as they feel is necessary.

3. In areas where there is CCTV coverage, the Mosquito can be activated by the CCTV monitoring service

The Mosquito is a non-invasive device that has been specifically designed to disperse groups of youths and teenagers who may be loitering in areas where they could prove to be a nuisance. It is an effective deterrent that causes no physical pain or damage, even in the event of long term exposure.

The system generates a pulsed, near ultra sonic tone at around 16KHz, close to the limit of the hearing range of people under 25 years of age. The sound, though not painful in any way, becomes highly annoying after 5 or so minutes exposure. The result is that most under 20s leave the immediate area, whilst the majority of those over the age of 30, because of natural age related hearing loss, either just hear, or, as in most cases, are totally unaware of any noise at all.  

The system is designed to be used for up to 20 minutes at a time. The unit incorporates a 20 minute cut-off time to avoid unnecessary annoyance. Mosquito complies with the HSE 2005 guidelines and is already widely used by police and local authorities around the UK.

• I am not a teenager. Will the Mosquito annoy me ?

This is very unlikely and research has shown that the majority of people over the age of 25, have lost the ability to hear at this frequency range. It should be borne in mind however, that the unit usually has the desired effect in moving crowds away within just a few minutes. So even if you are able to hear the noise to some degree, you will not have to put up with it for long.

• Who installs the Mosquito ? 

The unit has been designed to be easily fitted as easy as fitting an exterior spotlight  and is supplied with comprehensive instructions. An approved, trained installer should not take more than 1 hour to complete the installation. 

• How robust is the unit ?

The Mosquito is housed in a custom designed, tough vandal resistant metal casing and is consequently very strong. We recommend the unit is mounted at least 2.5 metres high to reduce the risk of vandalism

• How does Mosquito work ?

Mosquito is essentially a sounder unit that emits a very high (ultra sonic) tone that is completely harmless, even with long term use.
