Without a full copy of a test report should you be fitting any other downlighter?  Flameguard downlights comply with ALL essential building regulations.

Since the launch of the Mk1 Flameguard range at the beginning of 2005 there has been a very large increase in the demand for fireproof lighting.  The demand for a guaranteed, easy to fit, method of protection against the spread of fire and noise pollution in modern buildings has never been greater than today.

The installation of fire hoods and blankets is often haphazard and they need to be inspected periodically to ensure correct installation.  The choice of the wrong size firehood further worsens many installations.

As with many innovative developments Flameguard spawned a host of imitations from manufacturers who wanted to capitalise on the demand for this new and highly effective means of providing unprecedented protection for these areas.  The critical design and production elements of Flameguard have been protected by means od a copywright and patent applications, leaving those companies with no alternative but to cut corners in manufacturing and materials used.

In order for Scolmore to be able to guarantee the levels of performance and protection demanded in such critical operational arenas they have sought to have Flameguard independently tested and approved, in support of all their claims for its guaranteed performance in the following areas-

  • Preventing the spread of fire.
  • Inhibiting the spread of airborne and impact sound

Click Flameguard Approvals and Accreditations for Fire, Acoustic and Condensation Control

Scolmore believe that it is crucial that potential installers and specifiers of Flameguard should be able to access this important testing and approval information in order to satisfy themselves of its suitability for their application.  If you would like to view a copy of the FlameGuard approvals Compendium, containing test and approvals data evidencing compliance with all of the latest regulations relating to Fire Safety, Noise Ingress and Control of Airborne Moisture etc., please call 01827 63454 or e-mail sales@scolmore.com

Built-in protection against spread of fire and noise pollution

The FlameGuard System found in CLICK downlighters has been designed to effectively restore the fire integrity of ceilings as well as providing an acoustic barrier.

‘designed to effectively maintain the fire integrity of the ceiling / floor construction’ True ‘Fix and Forget’ protection

True ‘Fix and Forget’ protection. Once installed all FlameGuard protected downlighters offer long term protection, immediately and guaranteed. There is no need for secondary inspection to ensure that the fire seal is in place. It is an integral part of the downlighter and requires no further action over and above the installation of the downlighter.

Intumescent Insulation

In the designing of Flameguard, Scolmore were always conscious of the need for a collaborative partner capable of producing consistently high quality intumescent seal material which plays such a key role in the attributes of all Flameguard products.  The preferred product for its all round performance and stability is the Tecnofire Intumescent seal.

Tecnofire intumescents do not contribute to the smoke generation or heat flux.  The intumescent mat contains 15% organics, no halogens or nitrogen, so is not a  significant contributor of fuel or smoke.  In some applications the use of intumescent mat has resulted in reductions of flame propagation and smoke generation.  The products have been tested to BS476 Part7 1997 surface spread of flames and achieved a Class 1 rating.

Fire testing is an absolute necessity in proving the performance of fire protection products.  Tecnofire products have been extensively tested in a wide range of applications.  From naval applications to underground railway demands and from furniture and fittings to the building industry, the products have been tested and approved by recognised accredited testing facilities.

All Tecnofire intumescent products have considerable tolerance to damp conditions and the occasional water immersion such as might occur from condensation, leaking pipes, floods or similar events in a building.  Tests have shown that, after water immersion, Tecnofire intumescents will dry out and give the same level of performance as the original sample.

Terminal Blocks

A great deal of thought has gone in to the design of the terminal block used on Flameguard fittings.  Both low voltage and 230v GU10 lamps can generate high temperatures and only the best quality materials have been used in the construction of this vital assembly

A great deal of thought has gone in to the design of the Click Flameguard Ceramic terminal blocks

The silicon sheathed conductors are fed from the downlighter into a ceramic terminal block and secured.  Ther terminal screw heads and recesses are then covered with a GRP moulded cover which prevents detritus building up on the terminal block and creating a fire risk.

The 230v mains GU10 terminal connector block provides a loop-in loop-out facility allowing a series of downlighters to be wired together without the cost and inconvenience of fitting junction boxes.
